FAQs

What are the different types of hazardous area lighting?

We supply both Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous lighting:

Zone 1

A Zone 1 hazardous area is an area where flammable gases, vapours, or liquids are likely to be present in sufficient quantities to create an explosive atmosphere. Zone 1 hazardous area lighting is commonly found in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, petrochemical plants and refineries and is constructed with explosion-proof designs to prevent ignition of surrounding flammable substances.

Zone 2

Zone 2 refers to an area in which flammable gases, vapours or liquids are not likely to occur in quantities that would create potentially explosive atmospheres in normal operating conditions. However, Zone 2 hazardous area lighting is a required safety measure to prevent any potential ignition source in an environment with a lower, but still present, risk of flammability. Zone 2 hazardous lighting is commonly used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food processing and manufacturing facilities.

Why is LED lighting a popular choice for hazardous areas?

Explosion-proof LED light fittings are commonly used in areas classified as hazardous. They produce bright light using much less energy than traditional lighting solutions, reducing the risk of fire or explosion in flammable environments. LED lights are durable, impact-resistant and can last up to 50,000 hours or more. Their energy efficiency can also help to reduce energy costs. You'll find an excellent range of LED hazardous area lighting here at YESSS Electrical.

Which industries require hazardous area lighting?

Industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, mining, manufacturing and wastewater treatment often require hazardous area lighting due to the presence of potentially flammable substances in their operations.
