Bespoke Standby Power Solution for Critical National Infrastructure

This new solution is for a standby power solution for a critical national infrastructure. 

The system was designed to provide reliable life-safety backup power, ensure essential operations could continue in the event of a mains failure. 

Site challenges

Due to the highly secure environment, all works had to be carried out to meet a strict schedule with limited flexibility as the site is one of the UK’s critical infrastructure network.

External factors caused delays but with the help of all parties involved the programme was able to be adapted to make sure the end goal would be achieved.  

The solution

The installation included a 250kVA diesel generator with a 5000-litre bulk fuel tank with leak detection, automated fuel transfer and fuel polishing systems, alongside enhanced acoustic attenuation to achieve a low noise level of just 60 dBA at 1 metre

Safety features were implemented to add extra protection with fire suppression and fuel shut-off valves. 

Delivery & Commissioning

Although there are complexities when working within a secure and sensitive environment, the project was successfully delivered through close coordination between all parties involved, which was successful achieved with careful planning, installation, testing, and commissioning.

The standby power system now helps in providing critical resilience for a key national infrastructure facility. Providing the business with a compliant, future-proof backup power solution that will support the site’s operation for years to come.
