Sustainability is in the forefront of issues we currently face that now businesses can’t turn a blind eye to it anymore.

Government initiatives, regulations, and pledges stem from COP26 highlights the need to act more responsibly for the future of the planet.

At the start of 2023 the UK government expect large UK firms have proof of how they expect their business to meet the climate change targets that have been put in place to make sure we reach the 2050 net-zero targets.

Lighting will play a part in reducing a business’s climate target and making sure it will be achievable for the 2050 date.

A report from the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) highlighted that lighting is an easy solution as it is a quick and cost-effective way of being more environmentally conscious.

Looking at current trends would imply that sustainability and circular economy will increase rapidly in a lighting format which can lead to 3 key outcomes.

Firstly, Businesses demand energy efficient products. This outcome will help reduce energy consumption but also helps in cutting costs. ESOS’s report suggests that a company would be able to reduce each lamp from 470 watts to 220 watts and also being able to automatically control lighting throughout the day. An example of a company who did this showed they recovered around a £70,000 investment slightly over 12 months.

Secondly. Organisations are more mindful about their consumption. Product lifestyles are in the spotlight in purchasing decision for firms needing to understand where waste they use is going. This also includes the circular economy. As a sustainable outlook is becoming more and more popular, products that can be reused or recycled will be much more successful in comparison to products that are disposed via landfill.

Finally, in regard to waste footprint, Enterprises are to buy products that last. By having products that are maintainable or able to be repaired to increase the products longevity is great for serviceability. British lighting products are great because as they are local products means that they are easily serviceable.
